Being raised as a Black, Sirius learned quickly the difference between true loyalty and loyalty due to expectations. As high up in society as his family was, Sirius realised everything he had been taught up until his entrance into politics was nothing more than contradicting. Cygnus, his father, having taught him family was to be honoured above all else, made clear where his true loyalty lay – within the expectations of those he either worked for, or dealt with on a daily basis. There was no loyalty in falling in line for Sirius, who opted out and often left the dealings to his father. Sirius vowed that those he cared for would know how quickly he'd sacrifice it all, insisting that this Black would not conform merely because it was expected.
In being so stubborn where his ideals were concerned, Sirius spent the majority of his time feeling as though his father deserved more – in a son, in an heir. And though this brought about a rather hateful complex at times, where he spent a large portion of his arguments being more defensive than needed, Sirius was always quick to show his father how important family meant to him; overcompensating in a variety of ways.
